What is a Memory Café?

A Memory Café is a free ‘drop in’ service for anyone who has concerns about their memory or the memory of a loved one. It is open to people of all ages. Come in and get:

Information, Advice, Support, Somebody to talk to, A cup of tea (or coffee), Some mental stimulation, Please bring with you a partner, family member or a friend.

When and where is it held? The Memory Café is held every month on the 3rd Thursday afternoon from 2.30-4.30pm at The Avenue Church The Avenue Newton Abbot TQ12 6LP Transport links: The number 12 and the number 78 bus stop outside the church. Newton Abbot Railway Station is a short walk away, the Church being on the corner of Queen Street and the Avenue. Transport by minibus can be arranged through KingsCare & Newton Abbot Community Transport. Call the Co-ordinator for details.

Who runs the Café? The café is run by experienced volunteers from KingsCare League of Friends and a nurse from the local Older Persons’ Mental Health team. The volunteers are there to welcome you, look after you and serve refreshments. The nurse is there to offer professional advice and informal memory screening. There is no charge for refreshments but donations are always welcome to help cover costs. Parking at the church is very limited. Osborne Street and Cricketfield car parks are both within easy walking distance.
